Are Animals Affected by Lunar Cycles?

Belted sandfish have significantly higher levels of an estrogen-like
substance in their bloodstream at new and full moon.
Night-migrating skylarks are most active when the moon in its
waxing gibbous stage.
Galapagos fur seals dive less and deeper on moonlit nights than at
new moon and show loss in body weight.
The predatory behavior of some mites is significantly and strikingly
depressed around the full moon.
Coho salmon parrs and smelts, maintained in a fixed
12-hour light/ 12-hour dark light cycle, show rhythmic changes in
growth pattern on a 14–15 day cycle suggesting that the lunar cycle
acts as a “timegiver” for the synchronization of growth rate rhythms.
One type of mollusk can derive directional cues from the magnetic field
of the earth and will orientate differently according to the lunar phase.
Cats apparently spray a lot of urine when moon is full.
Coyotes, wolves and dogs are often howling at the moon.

Many police officers or emergency room personnel have
noted a seeming rise in activity in their line of work
during full Moons.
At the University of Miami, psychologist Arnold Lieber and his colleagues
decided to test the old belief of full-moon “lunacy” which most scientists had
written off as an old wives’ tale. The researchers collected data on homicide in
Dade County (Miami) over a period of 15 years — 1,887 murders, to be exact.
When they matched the incidence of homicide with the phases of the moon,
they found, much to their surprise, that the two rose and fell together, almost
infallibly, for the entire 15 years! As the full or the new moon approached, the
murder rate rose sharply; it distinctly declined during the first and last quarters
of the moon.

In the Journal of the Florida Medical Association, Dr. Edson J. Andrews
writes that in a study of 1,000 tonsillectomies, 82 percent of postoperative
bleeding crises occurred nearer the full than the new moon — despite the
fact that fewer operations were performed at that time!
Clearly, the full moon is a dangerous time for surgery,
and the dissemination of this knowledge should result in planning
operations for the new moon.
Dr. Lieber and his colleagues shouldn’t have been so
surprised. An earlier report by the American Institute of
Medical Climatology to the Philadelphia Police Department
entitled “The Effect of the Full Moon on Human Behavior”
found similar results. That report showed that the full moon
marks a monthly peak in various kinds of
psychotically oriented crimes such as
murder, arson, dangerous driving, and
kleptomania. People do seem to get a little bit crazier
about that time of the month.
The body of animals and
human consists of about
55-70% of water.
the brain is composed of 70% water
the lungs are nearly 90% water
Liver - nearly 75% water
Skeleton - nearly 58% water
About 83% of our blood is water
Water is of major
importance to all living
things.
Everybody knows that the Moon controls
the tides of all the natural bodies of water
on our planet.
The gravitational force of the Moon is one
ten-millionth that of earth, but when you
combine other forces such as the Earth's
centrifugal force created by its spin, you
get tides.
